Phils welcome Fish to South Philly

Baseball Betting Lines

09/07/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Philadelphia Phillies have put their terrible road trip behind them and will open a seven-game homestand tonight with the first of three straight games versus the Florida Marlins at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies went 2-4 on a six-game road trip to Florida and Atlanta, with the finale of a three-game series against the Braves at Turner Field leaving the biggest impression. The Phillies owned leads of 5-0 and 8-2 before giving up four runs in the eighth inning to help Atlanta pull within 8-6.

Philly then had two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded before Braves outfielder Matt Diaz cleared the bags with a hit for a dramatic 9-8 win. The ball sailed over Michael Roberson's glove in right field, allowing all three runs to cross the plate.

Brett Myers suffered the loss after giving up three runs in 1 1/3 innings, while rookie starter Kyle Kendrick continued to impress with five solid innings of two-run ball. Former closer turned setup man Tom Gordon was rocked for four runs in just one-third of an inning.

Chase Utley had three hits and two RBI and Pat Burrell homered for the Phillies, who are five games off the top spot in the NL East and three games behind in the wild card race.

J.D. Durbin will be looking for revenge against Florida when he takes the mound for the Phillies tonight. Durbin last took the hill on Saturday at Dolphin Stadium and was blasted for seven runs and five hits without getting an out in the first inning.

Durbin, who is 6-4 with a 5.20 ERA in 14 games (eight starts) with Philadelphia this season, is 6-2 with a save in his last 11 trips to the rubber. The righty is 0-1 with a save and a 21.00 ERA in two games (one starts) against Florida this season.

The Marlins were just swept in three games by the Washington Nationals, including Wednesday's 6-4 loss at RFK Stadium. Miguel Olivo hit a two-run homer for Florida, which has dropped nine of its last 12 games. Starter Sergio Mitre was roughed up for three runs on four hits over just two-thirds of an inning for the no decision. Reliever Matt Lindstrom took the loss in relief for allowing two runs in just two-thirds of an inning.

Byung-Hyun Kim gets the start for the Marlins tonight. He is 8-6 with a 5.54 ERA in 23 games (17 starts) with Colorado, Arizona and Florida this season. In 18 games -- 14 starts -- with Florida in 2007, Kim is 7-3 with a 4.61 ERA.

Kim has won his last two starts, including a victory over the Phillies on Saturday in South Beach. The Korean right-hander yielded four runs and 10 hits in five innings, but the Marlins pounded out a 12-6 victory. In 18 career games (four starts) against Philadelphia, Kim is 5-2 with a 4.06 ERA.

Florida is 8-7 against the Phillies this season, with a 2-4 record at Citizens Bank Park.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
