Report: Wilfork signs long-term deal with Pats

03/05/2010 - Boston, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New England Patriots and defensive tackle Vince Wilfork have reportedly agreed to a five-year contract worth $40 million.

According to Boston.com, which cites Wilfork's agent, the deal has $25 million guaranteed and an $18 million signing bonus.

Wilfork, 28, was recently placed under the franchise tag agreement, which would have meant a $7 million salary for 2010 if he had not come to a long- term agreement with the club.

Wilfork has played in 90 regular-season games for the Patriots, including 80 as a starter, since the club selected him with the 21st overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. He has recorded 449 tackles, including 257 solo, with 7 1/2 sacks in his career.

The University of Miami product was elected to the Pro Bowl this past season after leading New England defensive linemen in tackles with 65. He was also a Pro Bowl pick during the club's undefeated regular season of 2007.

Mayweather picked to beat De La Hoya
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya and his rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. arrived at the MGM Grand here Wednesday amid the pomp and pandemonium befitting two of the biggest stars in the sport who are about to duke it out for the WBC super welterweight crown this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Ring Magazine, the acknowledged bible of boxing, reported in its June 2007 issue that 12 out of 20 boxing experts it interviewed have favored Mayweather to defeat De la Hoya, with only 8 favoring the latter.

But Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao said in a recent interview with The Freeman's Emmanuel Villaruel that De La Hoya will win by unanimous decision over Mayweather.
